Dress Code

This is one of America’s great golf and country clubs.
The beautifully wooded two hundred and nineteen acres, rambling Old-English style clubhouse and two 18-hole golf courses are a standing tribute to the prominent group of forward thinking Detroiters who formed the Club over one hundred years ago, in 1899.

The Dress Code is applicable to all members, spouses, children and guests while in the clubhouse, on the golf courses and practice areas. Members are responsible for the dress and conduct of their guests. Members and their guests are expected to dress in appropriate attire and in good taste at all times. These standards include, but are not limited to the following minimums:

  • Shoes must be worn in the clubhouse and throughout grounds.
  • No changing clothes or shoes in the parking lot.
  • No jeans or denim of any type or color.
  • No tube, halter, or tank or spaghetti strap tops of any type.
  • Swimwear is restricted to the pool area.
  • Tennis or warm-ups permitted in tennis court & pool areas.
  • No hats permitted on the first floor of the clubhouse (gentlemen only).
  • All hats are to be worn with the bill forward.
  • Men's shirts must have collars, sleeves and be tucked in. Long sleeve and short sleeve mock turtleneck shirts are acceptable, provided they have a least a one-inch collar.
  • Women's shirts without sleeves must have a collar (jeweled neck tops are acceptable).
  • Only dress or golf shorts are acceptable and must not be shorter than 4 inches above the knee or have an out-seam of at least 19 inches.
  • Business Casual attire required in the Main Dining Room.
  • Those improperly attired will be refused dining privileges, playing privileges on the golf courses and practice areas until corrective action has been taken and will be subject to disciplinary action from the House Rules Committee.
